Tobacco Counseling Services

Unity Behavioral Health recognizes that nicotine is a drug of addiction, actually causing more loss of life than any other drug. We offer a highly-personalized program to treat nicotine dependence. Treatment regimens are individualized and may range from four sessions of brief counseling and education to more intense comprehensive counseling.

Our professional staff provides motivational-based therapy to help patients prepare to stop their tobacco use, learn procedures to manage withdrawal, and promote the development of replacement coping behaviors. Components of care comprise: educational activities, individual and/or group counseling, skill training & practical problem-solving including craving management and relapse prevention planning to promote continued abstinence. Use of nicotine skin patches or other medications are coordinated with the patient’s primary care physician.

Tobacco Counseling Services is made available through a grant from the New York State Department of Health Tobacco Control Program. Participants must be actively involved in other Unity Chemical Dependency or Mental Health Services.
