Domestic Violence Education Program

Evelyn Brandon Health Center
81 Lake Avenue
Rochester , New York 14608
(585) 368-6901 ext. 8990

The Domestic Violence Education Program reflects the most current thinking in the domestic violence field and operates within a coordinated community effort to end domestic violence.

The program approach is based on the Duluth Psychoeducational group format, utilizing cognitive and behavioral interventions. The program is designed to address controlling and abusive behaviors, with emphasis on the perpetrator’s full responsibility for his abusive actions. The program approach reflects the belief that abuse is related to power and control, not to lack of anger management.

Clients who participate in the education group are required to attend a 90-minute group session each week, for a minimum of 26 weeks. Individual sessions are scheduled as needed. All group leaders are trained in the Duluth Psychoeducational group format.

Referrals can be made for any male who has been physically and/or emotionally abusive to his spouse or significant other. For the mandated client, there is timely communication to the court/legal system.
